Suchitra Mattai | Imperfect Isometry
September 24-29, 2019 | McNichols Civic Center Building
Imperfect Isometry was commissioned for the 2019 Sharjah Biennial in the United Arab Emirates. Consisting of massive tapestries woven with vintage saris and video footage of international borders and barriers, Suchitra Mattai explores how our environment(s) shape personal narratives, ancestral histories, and the creation of home. The spaces she creates are born from memory, history, and imagination. For Mattai, “‘Home’ becomes a conceptual space for ‘belonging,’ and as an American, Caribbean, South Asian from South America, the processes of migration, assimilation, and belonging are at the heart of this exploration.”
Imperfect Isometry is co-sponsored by the Denver Art Museum and the Biennial of the Americas.
