Passionate and committed to sustainable development. Civil engineer graduated from the University of Costa Rica, during her 28 years of experience in the energy sector, engineer Cañas has dedicated herself to the promotion of sustainable and low emissions electricity generation initiatives. He began his professional career at the Costa Rican Electricity Institute in the area of hydroelectric project budgets, later he was part of the Electrical Planning team where he contributed to feasibility studies of hydroelectric plants and other renewable sources.She was the coordinator for Costa Rica and Panama of the regional project 4E Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation), where she promoted the development of capacities in the public and private sectors on energy-related issues.
She served as vice minister of environmental management and energy of the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica where she was in charge of issuing environmental policies on environmental protection,management and sustainable use of natural resources and promoting the use of renewable energy sources.She was executive president of Grupo ICE, a public electricity and telecommunications company in Costa Rica. She led the Group transformation process, driving a cultural metamorphosis so that the organization quickly adapts to the challenges faced by the energy and telecommunications sectors.
She is currently a partner of the Boreal International Consulting firm.
