Mucho Indio
The Colombian producer and guitarist Ernesto "teto" Ocampo –who explores for more than ten years the indigenous music –, presents his group Mucho Indio, whose music lets feel the serene joy of the Indians being devoid of the intellectual foundation of Western music and drama as a source of artistic creation.
Mucho Indio / Musical group was fed by years of knowledge that came in the Word Circle (Círculo de Palabra), ancestral community practice, medicine wheel and sound, celebration in which the community, as from the cavern, sits before the fire to make family, to clean the word and thought, to go deep, to the spiritual connection. In years of mambeadero, with great understanding, arrived the melodies that compose the repertoire of Mucho Indio. In 2012 Polen Records publishes the first album of Mucho Indio, where Arhuacas, Nasas, Kankuamas, Huitotas and Wayúu are collected, which, when performed by urban musicians, using indigenous instruments and modern musical instruments and techniques, make the Paleofuturistic Laboratory with which a new sound is achieved, a new art born of a new cultural mix in which indigenous wisdom is included.
Mucho Indio is born of recognizing that we are Indians. Urban Indians. Since 20 years before, the indigenous communities have been sending to the city’s universities, some of its members to learn about the Western system, knowledge they need for the dialogue that is taking place between the two worlds. Mucho Indio is the sound image of the traditional mamos sitting on a fire in the city teaching and learning on a healing feast.
