Ana Elena Mallet
Independent Curator
Ana Elena Mallet is a Mexico City-based curator specializing in modern and contemporary design.
She is currently a Distinguished Teacher at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the Tecnológico de Monterrey and a Member of the Acquisitions Committee of the Department of Architecture and Design of the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) since April, 2021.
She has collaborated as curatorial advisor and member of advisory and acquisitions boards with museums and university collections, such as M+ (Hong Kong); The Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum (LACMA), the Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Artes (MUCA-Roma), the Casa del Lago, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Museo Franz Mayer and the Centro Cultural Universitario de la Universidad de Guadalajara.
She has held positions as Curator at the Museo Soumaya, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil; as Deputy Director of Programming at the Museo Rufino Tamayo and as Chief Curator of the Museo del Objeto del Objeto (MODO). As an independent curator and cultural manager, she coordinated the research project on the history of contemporary art in Mexico over the last 20 years for the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (PAC); she directed the Corredor Cultural Roma Condesa from 2009 to 2019 and has curated exhibitions for various museums in Mexico and abroad.
She was part of the Advisory Committee of the London Design Biennial in 2016 and 2018.
In 2020 she published the book La Vida en el Arte. Writings by Clara Porset (Editorial Alias) and the book Felix Tissot Lo eterno y lo moderno (Fauna); in 2017 the book Silla Mexicana (Arquine / Conaculta) and in 2014, La Bauhaus y el México Moderno. The design of Van Beuren (Arquine / Conaculta).
