"To See You, To Ache To Feel You, To Feel For You. (Us)" is a painting that carries themes and emotions such as fear, the craving for physical affection from our lovers and peers. During the past year and few months now, we have been left without landmarks, destabilized, without the possibility to seek comfort in the arms of those who we love. Yet, even in such a devastating state, gestures of empathy and solidarity were noticed amongst society. Even when left without much, individuals have gathered mentally, intellectually, emotionally, to help and support those in need as much as they can, as to reach some sort of balance and equality in this new unbalanced era. I have been touched by those, demoralized and not necessarily more lucky, who have found ways to provide care, food, emotional support to those around them and more. Now, if we take a look at the elements I have incorporated on this painting to try and express these emotions, gestures and state of minds, we can notice two hands reaching for each other but not quite being able to touch. Characters that are floating in a chaotic but hopeful atmosphere, expressed by colours, not looking at each other as there are so many individuals in the city, in different countries who also struggle at the hands of the pandemic. The squares around their heads represent the barrier that the virus has imposed on us but also the screens that we had no choice to incorporate in our lives in order to maintain some new form of social interactions and that is, if we we're lucky to own such screens. Their mouths are masked but their eyes are wide open to let their peers know they are seen, not alone. Their heads are on fire, for so many thoughts run through their brains and the weight of uncertainty burns. However, their bodies are red, warm and resilient. Their hearts are still beating and are filled with empathy. Hopeful, commemorating those who are not here with us anymore.
