Started in tourism in 1970.
He has been a successful tourism entrepreneur in tour operations, hospitality, airlines, the adventure market, etc., and a marketing specialist with an emphasis on country marketing.
He coined the term ECOTOURISM in 1977 and it was his registered trademark.
From 1984 to 1986, he was President of CANATUR.
Founding member of ACOPROT.
Built the first eco-lodge in Coter, Tilarán in 1989.
His company, Tikal Tours, designed and delivered the first formal course for naturalist guides in 1990.
He was Vice President of the ICT board of Directors from 1994 to 1998 and remained on the Board until 2002.
In 1995, he invented the CST and led the working group that developed it.
Throughout his time at ICT and for an additional 2 years by contract, he led country marketing, during which the destination slogan "No Artificial Ingredients" was generated.
Since 1994 to date, he has been a staunch promoter of sustainable tourism and now based on regenerative development.
From 2017 to date, President of the National Biodiversity Institute (INBIO).
From 2021 to date, President of the Tourism Movement for Costa Rica (TXCR).
From 2022 to date, President of the Center for Tourism Studies (CET).
