Anuar Maauad
Anuar Maauad (b. 1984) lives and works in Mexico City and is a 2019 Black Cube fellow. Maauad’s recent work examines the relationship between the political identity and social memory, and the subject of the perceptive experience. He received his BS in Architecture from the Universidad de Las Américas, Puebla, and a BFA from La Esmeralda (Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado), Mexico City. In 2010, he founded Casa Maauad, a non-for-profit residency program based in Mexico City that operated for seven years. His work can be found in significant collections, including the Jumex Foundation in Mexico, the Costantini Collection in Argentina, as well as others.
Anuar Maauad is gifting Denverites a series of 100 small-scale, bronze, text-based artworks. The bronze pieces mimic the look and feel of the Trump Tower signage and read “To share is precious, pure and fair”. The text is a reference to a lyric in Marvin Gaye’s, “I Want You,” and conveys a message of empathy. To receive an artwork, you must agree to display the work on a building exterior for one year.
