Mario Hernandez

Mario Hernández is Director of Public Affairs at Western Union, a leader in global cross-border, cross-currency money movement and payments. In this position, he is responsible for the development and implementation of public affairs strategies to reach WU’s various constituencies in the U.S., Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Mr. Hernández studied Public Administration at El Colegio de México and earned an M.Sc. in Public Policy and Public Administration from the London School of Economics. He participated in the first European Masters in Public Administration, a collaborative program of various European universities. Mr. Hernandez completed all but his dissertation towards a Ph.D. in Public Affairs at the University of Colorado in Denver.
A native of the Barrio del Panteón in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico, and a proud New American, Mr. Hernández received in 2007 a Doctorate Honoris Causa in Humanities from the Pan American University of El Salvador for his contribution to the empowerment and integration of Central American and Caribbean immigrant communities in the U.S.
On September 22, 2015, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to congratulate and commend Mr. Hernández for his exceptional service, achievements, and dedication to improve the quality of life for all.
Mr. Hernández is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Welcoming America. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute. He is a member of the Migration Policy Institute’s Business Council, and a member of the US-Mexico Forum of the Center for the US and Mexico of Rice University.
